Acquiring pet care company expands portfolio with acquisition of Pet Munchies

FAssisi Pet Care Ltd, a leading and growing UK supplier of treats and natural pet food, continues its expansion into the sector with the acquisition of established natural treats business Pet Munchies, to adding to its growing stable of brands which now includes the Hi Life, Hollings, Maced and Dog Way ranges of award-winning premium products.

Pet Munchies was established in 2008 by founder Suzanne Rothman and markets its range of award-winning natural treats for dogs and cats through retailers including Amazon, Ocado and many leading independent pet shops in the UK.

This latest acquisition brings Assisi’s annual turnover to £70 million with manufacturing operations in the UK and Poland employing a total of 300 people.

The deal, completed on June 30, 2022, marks the fourth acquisition by Assisi since the company was founded as part of a joint venture between Yorkshire-based entrepreneur Peter Mangion and London-based Harwood Capital Partners. in October 2020.

The deal follows the February acquisition of Polish company Maced and previous agreements to acquire Town and Country Petfoods in March 2021 and Hollings in October 2020 as its first investment.

Assisi’s advisers on the deal included Jonathan Simms, Kaira Clarehugh and Jonathan Schneider of Clarion in Leeds who provided legal advice from the company’s team. The company was also supported by Murray Harcourt who provided financial due diligence and Russ Cahill of the Tax Advisory Partnership provided tax due diligence to Assisi Pet Care.
